John VandeBossche - Lead Vocals & Percussion
Raised in the land of Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Grunge music (the Northwest), although a native of California, he was heavily influenced by the likes of CSN, CCR, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Al Green (a little Motown is good for all of us), The Moody Blues etc. He started singing in choirs while in grade school, sang in a performance group (Crimson Company at WSU), and sang at numerous churches, weddings and even funerals over the years. He has a wife and two children who have raised him over the past 20 years or so, and they have done a fine job of it. His home is in Yorba Linda. He loves to sing and looks forward to seeing you at our performances!
Rowena Preston - Lead Vocals, Percussion & Bass Guitar
Rowena was born in Leeds, England and came to America with her family at the ripe old age of 2. She has been an entertainer for the past 25 years. She has performed as a lead vocalist for many outstanding cover bands performing at major casinos, nightclubs, hotels and restaurants in California, Nevada and Arizona. Rowena grew up in Palm Springs, Ca, where she attended high school & college. She was featured in Palm Springs Life Magazine for many seasons. She also plays bass guitar and has played drums in various cover bands. Rowena has performed as "Ann Wilson" lead vocalist of HEART in an L.A.-based HEART TRIBUTE BAND and received rave reviews. Ann Wilson being one of her great influences, Rowena sounds remarkably like, and even resembles, one of the greatest rock female vocalist of our time. Rowena loves a wide variety of music and is very versatile. Everything from easy listening to rock, 60's to today's music. With a dynamic, upbeat personality, outstanding stage presence and strong lead vocals, she has followed in her father's footsteps as a musician, also a singer and trumpet player. With music being her number one passion, her second love is for animals. Her beloved little Lhasa Apso, Tiffany, and her beautiful Persian cat, Nikki, are her little angels and she loves them both dearly. Rowena is currently performing as lead vocalist and bass player.
John Kane - Bass Guitar
Johnny K holds down the bottom for the Hypnotics. He started in OC's seminal garage band Don't Ask, which frequently tore down the house at La Vida Hot Springs (until the place was torn down). After Don't Ask, JK played with several bands in OC/LA, including a long stint in Disarray. Disarray became the opening act for Dramarama at several SoCal shows, before everyone graduated from college and became employed. After four years in OC Weekly’s #36 Most Important Band of All Time, King Arthur 's Royal Posse, he followed it up with fifteen years of not touching his instrument. The abstinence ended with the Don't Ask reunion sessions, producing the Just Say Cheese CD (send me an email and I'll sell you one) featuring several Don't Ask classics, like Living In the 60's.Johns favorite beverage is Harp Lager (hint, hint). He hails from Michigan's thumb, but was raised on Air Force bases around the world and spent his formative years in Anaheim. John lives in Corona with his wife and ever-expanding brood - Simon is the latest addition.
John Moses - Drums
Johnny Mo was born a poor Lebanese child in Quincy Mass. Migrating to Anaheim, Ca, at the age of six, Johnny Mo always loved the drums. In third grade he joined the school band; playing only the high hat, he yearned to play the rest of the set. After a ten year break he came back to play the full C.B. 700 drum set his mommy bought him. Johnny K , Nick Schneider, and Jeff started DON'T ASK in high school. And please, don't ask ! Johnny Mo played for many years in a virtual band, with his Roland V. Drums. Johnny Mo has now rejoined his friends, reformed as THE HYPNOTICS. Johnny Mo lives in Yorba Linda with his lovely wife and their 3 children. Johnny Mo autographed drum sticks are available at every gig.
Dave Freidman - Keyboards & Vocals
Dave hails from Boston, home of the Sox and the Pats. Dave has a long and distinguished rock career gong back to The Stompers, which used to play alongside such notables as J. Geils, etc. Dave currently lives in South Orange County with his daughter and plays in different bands throughout the region. Nobody plays a bigger organ than Dave!
I started playing the electric guitar my Freshman year of high school (so long ago I dare not mention) and played in formative “garage bands” for several years while learning my instrument. Who could have thought some 40 years later I’d still be in a “garage band”? (We practice in Johnny V’s garage.) I was one of the founding members of “SHADE”, a popular Orange County-based, 9-member horn band, and then moved on to more progressive rock a la YES, ELP & Genesis. I played in the O.C. club circuit for many years and got heavily involved in the New Wave movement with my original band “The Jets”. I then turned my sights to another original project, "Parallel" that recorded an album with Runaways producer, Kim Fowley. I recorded several more albums with the original Christian music project, "Amariah", and as a solo artist, and performed at many festivals and toured the southwest. As a member of ASCAP, my original music has been played on the radio in Australia, Europe, Scandinavia and the good old USA. Marriage & children followed and I now play for the fun of the old songs I love. This October 2010 will be my 29-year marriage anniversary to the lovely Tonia Patton, my son Chris will be 27 and my son Stephen will be 24. I plan to keep on boomer rockin’ with The Hypnotics for a long time to come. It’ll be a stone gas, man, so come and see us!
